Polyester has been a bit of a scarecrow in materials lately . The negatives of polyester are often talked about, but if you use it in the right place, it can serve very well! Want to know more? In the article you will learn what polyester is suitable for and why not avoid it.

What is polyester?

Polyester is a synthetic material that is made of various substances, most often from the so-called PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Polyester fibers are formed by forcing a mass in a liquid state through a nozzle to form a fiber. These fibers can be found in virtually all textile products.

The market is full of fabrics and clothing from mixtures of polyester with other materials (most often with cotton, viscose, wool, etc.), because their combination has better properties than each material alone . The mixture of polyester with other fibers acquires the desired properties for clothing - it holds its shape better, does not crease, dries quickly.

Advantages and disadvantages of polyester

The biggest advantage is low creasability, with polyester you will hardly need an iron. You do not expect eternity to dry the polyester material, it is usually dry in a moment, which is an advantage, for example, for sportswear. Polyester products do not fade and do not settle microorganisms, so polyester fabrics are perfect for curtains and drapes . Polyester can replace various materials that are otherwise very expensive - silk is an example for all of them. Overall, polyester fabrics and clothing are significantly cheaper than products made of natural materials.

It always depends on the processing, but usually the disadvantage of polyester is its airtightness. We do not recommend sewing sheets or sheets from polyester fabrics, for example, in these cases it is better to reach for pure cotton or cotton with an admixture. You would sweat unnecessarily in polyester bedding and it would be uncomfortable on the body. If the material is not of good quality, it tends to lump . Polyester cannot be dyed with commonly available dyes and blunt scissors and needles faster. Polyester products should be washed at a low temperature and preferably inside out so that the material does not melt. It is better to iron - if necessary - with a wet cloth.

So what do we recommend using polyester decorative fabrics for ? They are ideal for decorative purposes - small pillows, tablecloths, placemats, curtains, bedspreads, armchairs, etc. Polyester will simplify your life, because you will not have to pull an iron on each tablecloth!
